Beth Richards has taught effective writing in corporate and academic
settings for more than ten years. Her background includes extensive training
and experience in writing process, organizational communication theory,
writing genres, collaboration, and editing. She has developed writing
curriculum for clients in a variety of professional, service, and technical
fields, including engineering, aerospace, banking, education, and accounting.
She has also worked as an in-house consultant to develop company-wide training
programs for entry- and manager-level staff. In addition, she maintains
a technical writing and consulting business, developing user manuals and
training materials for polymer processing, respiratory monitoring, and
high-end audio equipment manufacturers. She also writes web-based
material for health care and education clients.
Ms. Richards is currently Director of the Professional and Technical
Writing program at the University of Hartford and has been an adjunct faculty
member there since 1994. She has a Master of Arts in English from
Georgia State University and is an active member of the Society for Technical
